Shannon, one of our FREC 3/4 learners (who is also studying medicine) was very lucky when he was offered a placement with the Sydney Air Ambulance in Australia. Shannon was able to take part in the medical training that new staff complete before becoming crew with this vital service. He was also able to complete observation shifts with air ambulance crews and saw advanced paramedics and doctors perform life saving procedures first hand. The photo with the indoor water facility is one showing the mock helicopter fuselage that crews must sit in as it is submerged and tipped upside down. This realistic training ensures that should the aircraft ditch in water, all aboard will have the best possible chance of survival having experienced this disorientating scenario before. The pig is used to practice chest drain insertion techniques on.
