Second time attending a course with Martin and he is professional as ever with a current knowledge of battlefield treatments.
November 21, 2025Robert PatersonJust wanted to give a shout-out to Martin; I just finished my FREC 3! The course was intense, but I learned so much. Martin was an awesome instructor, really breaking... read more everything down and making it easy to understand. He also had tons of real-world experience to share, which made things even more interesting. It's clear he's passionate about what he does, and that really rubbed off on the whole class. I feel much more confident and ready to go out there now. Huge thanks to Martin.
September 12, 2025Sam KendallAbsolutely amazing!! I recently completed the classroom stage of the FREC 3 course. The training was absolutely exceptional, Martin has a wealth of knowledge and is able to answer any questions,... read more and explain topics with cases he has encountered. And always ensures everyone understands and grasps everything that has been covered. The facilities are outstanding! The modern classroom is perfect for learning and allows for any difficult subjects to be dissected and explained in more detail. There is lots of training equipment and even an ambulance, so you can really get hands on practical experience with equipment. Overall I would wholeheartedly recommended Solent Medical Skills to anyone wanting to learn first aid or update and advance their skills with the FREC courses.
May 29, 2019Alan BondIF I COULD GIVE SIX STARS, I WOULD! As a person with no first-aid or medical experience, I was somewhat apprehensive at the outset; there is a considerable amount of study... read more involved when you look at the FREC 3 curriculum. Nevertheless, I took the plunge and attended the course. The facilities provided by Solent Medical Skills are EXCELLENT! Conducive study and training rooms, a relaxing communal space, and kitchen / break areas boasting appliances to toast, cook, heat, etc. The tea, coffee and biscuits are complimentary and in abundance. There are both Nespresso and Tassimo coffee machines, and pods are provided. Free parking is available onsite and adjacent at Bond Street Car Park, and you can request a pass from the course provider allowing you to park for free, otherwise, you'll pay around £6.00 per day. Looking at the reviews below, in particular Adam's, they pretty-much sum up my experience. I rarely give glowing reviews but, in this instance, I felt compelled to do so. The old adage of ‘Those who can, do; those who can’t, teach’, doesn't apply in this instance. The lead instructor, Martin Wyness, is an interesting chap, boasting a wealth of experience; Frontline NHS, Medical Trust, Military and, the current European conflict. He brings his VERY relevant experience to the class, which makes for a far more interesting course. Whilst the course content is considerable (delivered over five days), it is delivered in a style that facilitates comprehension. I've always found humour and charisma an important component when delivering content. It makes something less daunting and, is always very welcome when one's knowledge is lacking at the outset; it most-certainly invites you to be more willing to participate. Having successfully completed my FREC 3 last Friday, I will be doing my FREC4 in May / June and will only be doing so via Solent Medical Skills. If you have a genuine interest in studying these courses, I can honestly recommend both the company, and the trainer. My sincere thanks, Martin!

September 1, 2025AdamI recently completed the 5-day FREC 4 course that ran 3-7 March 2025. The course far exceeded my expectations and I think I was very fortunate to have decided... read more on this provider and to have Martin Wyness as an instructor, who is the lead instructor at Solent Medical Skills. Martin has a broad range of experience in terms of both the civilian and military setting. He also has an interesting background and vast experience to draw upon. Whilst the FREC 4 course has standardised course content, Martin delivers this exceptionally, adds his own thoughts based on experience and often gives interesting insights. Solent medical skills is in a well-equipped building, the classroom is comfortable and has all the medical equipment required. The coffee machine is excellent and I took advantage of this. They also provide a wide range of biscuits. There is a microwave if you bring your own lunch. There are a number of free parking spaces on site, there is also paid parking nearby that has a low day rate. Overall, if you are looking for a FREC course, then I would highly recommend Solent Medical Skills. I don't believe you'll be disappointed.

The course was superb and will... read more be very useful to me in my role when working internationally or going remote in general. The level of instruction and knowledge is excellent and I am sure you will find it valuable. Martin is a very detailed instructor with a great delivery style. Everyone on the course was kept interested and caffeinated (great coffee) - leading to plenty of input from other candidates from various disciplines. It is a lot to take in, but will be useful for medics from many backgrounds, including soldiers, remote/expedition medics or those operating in and around the hot zone, press correspondents, security, and so on. I would highly recommend it and will be back in the future to top up no doubt.
